In Dinner for Shoes episode 72, host Sarah Wasilak is joined by Syd Miller — founder of the beat-based workout brand HOUSEWORK — for a deep dive into the fashion of fitness. From her early days as a SoulCycle star to building her own cult-favorite studio and app, Syd shares how rhythm, resilience, and runway-ready style all collide in the boutique fitness world.
Together, Sarah and Syd unpack the rise of TikTok workout aesthetics, “Get Ready With Me” gym content, and the unwritten dress codes of modern fitness classes — where sleek activewear and matching sets have become as important as the sweat itself.
Sarah also dishes on her 10 favorite stylish activewear brands and taste-tests Syd’s go-to meal: Peruvian chicken (with Trish the Tabby very much in attendance).

Sarah’s outfit
VIREN Active set, New Balance sneakers.
I love the sand-toned shade of this activewear set, which was built for both comfort and performance. I don’t usually reach for sweats + sports bra combinations, but for a low-impact mat Pilates workout or lounging at home, this one is perfect. I coordinated it with my matching New Balance 9060s, which I’m quite honestly obsessed with, plus some gold jewelry since so many people seem to be working out in their jewelry these days! (We discuss that on the pod.)
Dinner
Wait until you see how obsessed Trish was with the pollo a la brasa from El Gordo in Jersey City, NJ. Peruvian chicken is Syd’s favorite meal, so we tried a NJ take on the dish.
Shoes
Like I said, I’m absolutely obsessed with this mesh-paneled iteration of the New Balance 9060. These are my “fancy” sneakers.
Stylish Activewear Brands
We run through some of my favorite fashion-forward activewear brands during the pod — can you guess which ones made the list? Keep an eye on the Dinner for Shoes Instagram, as we have a giveaway coming from one of the labels verrrrry soon.
